how to defend gay mairage for debate club.?

I mainly just want sources and convincing arguments particularly on societies that have been very tollerant towords homosexuality such as ancient greece, china, japan, etc. Reasons and tips are not needed but would be nice. Thxxxx

One thing you can bring up is how before wives could be legally abused and *owned* and that was solved, and it was a civil right. Gay marriage is also a civil right.

well.......the countries like united states provide certain important civil rights only to couples who r married which r really important for the future security of the couples and their children......and since the law doesnot recognize marriage between same sex ..it is hence forbidding them to attain certain civil rights which r very essential and hence breaking the most important constitutional law of equality and the law of attaining rights if being a citizen of that country....

hence gay marriage is important until an alternative like civil unions r approved by the govt
