How to deal with whining & sibiling rivery?

I am at my witts end with my two girls! My 5 yr. old whines a lot on a daily basis and sibiling rivery gets on my nerves. They fight over every little toy at times.

Their father lives here with us so that is not the issue.
From day one I have spoken to my kids in normal tone, I have never spoken to my kids in a baby sense of tone.
 
as for the winning, there is nothing worse. a little late but I truly believe that it starts at day one. if you want your children to talk like adults then you must speak to them like adults. baby talk is hard to resist, I know, but listening to whining all day is harder. If anyone asks me for anything in a whiny voice they certinly don't get it from me! kids learn how to talk by listening to us and they remember what works, so bear that in mind.
