i have a 32-year-old roommate. we are both postgraduates. i am 25.
i have problems with him.
i used to sleep late last semester because i have important work to do, disturbing his sleep. and after this semester began, he started to be bent on revenge, sleeping extremely late and getting up extremely early and making noises to disturb my sleep for 25 days.
i got tired on the morning of the 25th day of his revenge, when he was reading books and making noises simultaneously after getting up at 6: 20 a.m. i shouted to express my anger. i could see that there was unhappiness shown in his face.
from the morning of my shouting, he strengthened his revenge. he even got up at 5:00 at the morning to read and make noises at the same time. i was affected greatly.
so the next day when he got up early to read and disturb me, i began to do push-ups and sit-ups to make noises to disturb him. he was greatly annoyed by this and he had made it clear to me that he hated me doing such exercises like this while he was reading, because it produced noises. but dorm is not libraries. you can't ask your roommate to stop make normal noises while it is not time for rest.
he got hurt from this. and he strengthened his revenge again, getting up early when it was still sleeping time to make noises, for 3 hours without a seconds stop.
then he stopped his revenge.
but now he began again. his way of revenge has changed, i.e. he would turn on his bedamp which is too bright that i can't get asleep when it's on. i brought this up to him, but he said that he turned on his lamp because i slept too late, making noises waking him up.
i can sleep puncually at 11:00 at night to stop waking him up. but what if he continued to turn on his lamp at time for rest even though i stopped my disturbance behavior?
i am not deliberate to sleep late, because i have been dating with a girl and i have to escort her back after the dating. so i usually get back late at night.
what i fear most is that he would not stop his nuisance even after i have stopped mine. because there has been precedent that he took his revenge for 25 days without a single days stop on me. the result of his revenge was that i slept badly every day in the dorm and sometimes i got black eyes the whole day.
another reason he hates me is that i use an electric device to heat water for bathing and he hates it because he extremely fears that it will cause fire disaster. i admit that the device is against the rules of the school. but it is just a thing that everybody uses. he wanted me to stop using it and once said that the use of it made him crazy. but every student uses it.
what should i do? i don't want to move out and i don't fight.
thanks.
