How to deal with people who will not step aside while riding my bike?

I ride my bike to middle school on my "hybrid"(looks much more like a street bike) bike, and this afternoon I encountered two guys who wouldn't step aside while I was riding my bike on the sidewalk(the walk is generally empty on my route except for when I'm going back home for a short way).
Early on I rang my bell several times to warn them that I was behind them, and closer said excuse me. One boy turned around and simply said,"Ya, well, I'm not going to step aside."
I know this boy and he was perfectly physically capable of doing so and had no reason not to step aside for a few moments. I had off the sidewalk onto some ground beside the walk which, while there was ground, just to complain, it did have a lot of tiny hills and ditches. :D
Anyways, there are parts on my route home where I can't simply go off on a non-existent side(or a busy road!) and I want to know how to deal with these kind of people if I deal with anymore(hopefully not, but middle schoolers will be middle schoolers and sometimes won't step aside because they're chatting, etc.).
So, how do I deal with these types of people while on my bike?
Thanks!
