My father in law seems obsessed with me. He loves putting me and my family down and he brags constantly about himself and his family. I haven't done anything to promote this behaviour. To make it worse, my husband doesn't mind in the least. Even when his dad has had me crying, he doesn't so much as bat an eyelid. It's so out of character for him. He usually goes out of his way to protect me, but when it comes to his dad he doesn't. It makes the situation feel so much worse for me. I've tried being assertive with my father-in-law, but he just shoots me down and says he's not listening to my new age rubbish! Avoidance isn't always an option as my husband is so close to his dad and i'm a housewife, so it's not like i can be at work when he frequently drops in.
How to deal with my nasty father-in-law?
