Hi everyone, this is my first time posting here. I hope that I am posting this in the right spot, please forgive me if I haven't.

I am a graduate student and I just found out that i have mono. The doctor gave me a steroid pack to calm down the swelling in my throat, but it hasn't taken effect and I have been taking them for over three days now.

I live a very stressful life, I teach and I am a student. This is really the worst time this could happen since the semester ends in less then a month. Everyone that I talk to about this says that they had to drop out of school for a semester or they ended up in the hospital because of Mono.

No one has ever said what they did to get better. I am afraid. I don't feel like I am in control of my own body anymore. Even the short walk to campus exhausts me. I can't swallow with out crying, and its starting to cause my ear to hurt too.

Please does anyone have any advice?
Thank you

Hi my son had mono in high school. It took him a month to get better. I set it up that he would go to a class and then go home and sleep missing a class and then returning for another class. The next day he would attend a different class. It was the only way he could function and not have to miss all the classes. The teachers were very good about it and letting him make up the work. He wasn't contageous so he was allowed to go to school and he didn't want to miss it. He was gray with fatigue. He had to sleep.
