There is a new horse in the pasture with my mare who has a very nasty habit of kicking. Several times she has kicked at me and I've done my best to chase her away by swinging a lead rope and yelling at her. Today when her owner, a young girl who's probably only twelve or thirteen, let her out into the pasture while I was catching my mare she came over and double barrel kicked at me. Yes, I mean she trotted right over, turned around, and bucked straight at my head. Pure luck alone gave me enough time to duck and my horse enough time to dance out of the way before her hooves struck either of us. I swung my lead rope at her and shouted at her, and I did smack her across the butt with the lead rope. Then her owner started shrieking at me to never ever hit her horse or scream at her horse again. So now I've got two problems.
1. How do I deal with a kicker and at the very least get her to stay away from me and my mare while I'm in the pasture, and;
2. How on earth do I deal with a little girl who can't see how dangerous her horse's behavior is?
