My mother in law has not been very nice to me. I have been nothing but respectful of her and she ignores me, calls me names, puts me down, rolls her eyes at me when I speak, sends me E-mails about how I need to rearrange my furniture, and leaves her dog at my house that is not potty trained and pees all over the floor.
My boyfriend and I have bought a home together, we are both 29, and talking about getting married. My boyfriend's Mom is 54 and single. His Mom expects the holidays to be 100% focused on her. My boyfriend and I agreed to spend Christmas Eve and day with his Mom and spend Thanksgiving with my 85 yr old Grandparents. My boyfriend's Mom gave him guilt trips and yelled at him for spending one holiday with me. His Mom calls up to 20-30 times a day for my boyfriend to run errands for her on the weekend that she is perfectly capable of doing herself. My boyfriend wrote his Mom a letter telling her he loves her but he can't jump up and run her errands every single weekend. She doesn't get he has his own life too. Recently my boyfriend's Mom told him he was the biggest disappointment of the year.
My boyfriend does not have much of a backbone and after Thanksgiving day he left me alone on the holiday weekend being aware I had no where to go. My boyfriend is 29 but is scared of his Mother so he spent the whole weekend with his Mom even though he wanted to be with me. It still did not matter his Mother still yelled at him for spending Thanksgiving day with me. His Mom lives 10 minutes from us and we are spending all other holidays with her. I didn't think there was anything wrong with him spending a holiday with me and my family. Am I wrong in thinking this?
