I have done a lot with Excel in the past few years, but I have stumbled across a situation that I can't figure out a formula for. I am trying to count a number of products in once cell based on the product name listed in another cell. For instance: (using underscores to help with spacing)
___A____B______C______D______E
1_Date__Name__Item__Quantity__Price
2_1-04__John___Car_____5______25
3_1-15__Frank__Top_____7______14
4_1-21__Sue____Car_____8______40
5_1-29__Todd___Doll_____6______12
5_2-09__Carl____Top____10______20
So let's say I wanted to know how many cars were sold. In this case, it would be 13. Maybe I want to know how much was made from the sales of these cars. Again, this would be 65. Is their a formula that can count all numbers in a column based on matching criteria in another column?
In case it makes a difference, I am using Excel 2002 Thanks.
