How do you cook a chicken in a crock pot? I want to make dinner for my girlfriend, but I have no idea how to cook a chicken. I know how to make the dinner, but I typically buy a pre-cooked chicken. This time I bought a raw chicken at the grocery store. Do I have to clean the chicken or remove anything from it or can i just stick it directly into the crock pot? Do I add water for it to cook in?

Thank you.
My girlfriend just bought me this crock pot, so I am trying to use it. That is why I am not using the oven. Thanks for the suggestion though.

First off, you don't wash it, that just spreads bacteria about the kitchen. Secondly, if it's a whole chicken, make sure there are no paper wrapped packages inside. If you have an oven you'd be better off roasting it. Just coat the skin with butter of oil, season with salt and pepper, maybe a little rosemary if you have it, put it in a shallow pan and pop it into a preheated 350F oven for about an hour to an hour and a half. If it's not a whole bird you can try this:
Crock-pot Chicken & Stuffing
Put 1 lb chicken, one can of cream of mushroom soup and two cups of chicken broth into your crock pot. Mix 1 ½ cups of chicken broth and 4 tbsp of butter into a package of Stove Top stuffing mix in a large bowl. Add your stuffing mixture to the crock pot with the chicken. Cover and cook on low heat for 4 to 7 hours, depending on type of chicken used.

You're better off just roasting it. A crock pot is a slow cooker which means that it's great for fatty types of stew meat. Chicken is too lean. Besides, roasting a chicken only takes an hour+.

Rinse under cold water. Pat it dry. Salt and pepper inside and on the breast meat (butter first). 350º until brown and the leg bone moves easily in the socket.

P.S. Ignore what "Professor Grey" says. You absolutely have to rinse poultry, then wash your hands and counter top/cutting board well. And since most chickens weigh 4-5 pounds, I'm suspicious of a recipe calling for 1 lb. Actually, her recipe sounds pretty awful.
