How to convince friends to care for the environment?

I was eating lunch not long ago, when my friends got in an argument about something, I wasn't really paying attention till it got heated. They were fighting over world issues, each was on a different side, somehow in this confusing event the environment was reached, talking about factories and pollution and things of that sort. Then to my surprise both said. "I don't really care what they do or I do, I really don't care about the environment, it does not affect me." I was hit, it made me mad but I'm smart and knew to keep my mouth shut, they were already mad enough. I want to know how do i convince them to care?? Saying because nature is wonderful and we need it does not work, I tried it. I want to show them that caring for the environment is good, but I don't have a good argument.

P.S. I do not believe in Global Warming, so don't put that in your answer. I love nature with a passion, but do not believe that.
 
well youre pretty damn crazy-if u dont believe in global warming your like the small minority of ignorant and/or foolish people who believe that not doing anything to stop the destruction of our planet by corporations and bad governemnts (AHEM AMERICA).
 
Forget the Environment! When mother nature was hitting us with earthquakes and plagues and floods I didn't see her giving us a break. Now that she's losing she wants a truce. Forget that noise! Finish her off while we got her on the ropes!
 
environment is something that we should enjoying
if we lose it, what we have?
nothing
there are lots of things that is worth to be saved
so we can enjoying the adventure of earth
