How to connect media center PC to Surround Sound Amplifier?

Hi,

I am planning on buying a Media Center PC and connecting it up to a TV and 5.1 surround sound system. The surround sound system will consist of an amplifier and speakers.

My question is, how can I connect the PC's sound card to the amplifier and ensure surround sound? Is there a digital connection that I can use?
