How to connect a MacBook to a Windows wireless network?

I just got a MacBook and it can't find my wireless network on my Dell PC with a Westell Versalink 327W router. When I try to add the network to the Mac and connect, I keep getting an error message. I am inexperienced with Macs, so please be basic. This seems like it should be really easy...
