How To clear up the built in memories on the xbox360 arcade?

Hey i wanted to play xbox live so i hooked my ethernet cable to my 360 then i try to join xbox live but it said i need 128mb more memory for the update. People said there is a built in 256mb memory for the arcade, so how do i use that memory for the update?
