we live in a rented house and so I dont want to be spending large amounts of money on it, but our back yard is big enough for a table and some chairs and I would like to make it nice for the summer coming in as at the moment it is just like a concrete block. I am thinkin about just buying some hanging baskets and trees in pots and things like that so I can take them with me if we leave, but are there are websites or stores that sell very cheap trees like large ones, I would like a palm tree type, but most Ive seen are about £40 for one, and I dont have that much money to spend on one tree!

find a nursery somewhere around where you live the plants may be expensive but just make sure you get the ones that come back next year, so if you did buy something it wouldnt just be a big waste of money. You could enjoy it for the rest of you life!

perinial, thats the word you should look for, it means that the plants will come back!

sun annual means they will live for a year or over the summer then die and wont come back!

Best inexpensive source to find inexpensive garden plants are your friends that have gardens. If you like perennials, they will usually be more than happy to divide and give you some of their plants.

Another way is to find some homes with gardens you admire, if you see someone working them, let them know how wonderful their garden is and ask them how they started. Again most will be happy to share their knowledge and plants.

Large trees don't come cheap, unless you happen to find somebody who wnts to get rid of one. But you can do up some nice pots and hanging baskets fairly cheaply. A couple of trays of bedding plants don't cost much (it's a bit late now to be planting seeds for this year) You could also try asking on your local Freecycle group, just in case anybody is clearing out their garden and has some spare plants.
