how to change a pc games settings to default without starting the game?

ok i need to know how to change a pc games settings to default because my tv doesn't support the widescreen setting in Half Life, yes i use a tv as a monitor, i would hook up my old crt monitor but the power cables missing anyone know how to do this because the screen just turns blue when i start the game
