How to Build a Ring Toss Game ?

For class i am required to build a machine which at start is suppose to be about 40x40 and is suppose to make a ring travel 3 meteres & is to be put onto a pole.. there isnt any human interactions allowed & a button or switch is required .. i was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how i can make this machine?
