how to build a ford 289 high performance to it's max and be street legal?

i have a 289 high per 1965 out of a comet in a 70 f 100 XLT lt short bed it has a small cam 650 edelbrock carb and intake headers. it runs good but i want it to scream. and put it on all the 350s running around. to get out run with a 289 would make my day. It has a t10 hookeg to it with a 356 9" ford rear. ford fans help. thanks the old cheif ps horse to old and to slow.
 
If you want power and strength, then drop you in a stroked 351. I'm sure that the 289 will split in half when you get around 500rwhp, so your only going to be able to make so much power and have to stop to be safe, or risk splitting your block. But if you want to keep the 289 and make alot of power then, just build it with the forged bottom end and h beam rod, and a set low compression pistons and a set of afr's or victor jr. aluminum heads and a custom cam built for boost and either go with a turbo or supercharger. But again with this setup 500hp will be reached easy and your 289 and 302 blocks aren't that strong.
 
Street Legal? the only thing you would have to worry about would be excessive noise, so no bom boxes and no staight pipes..

You'll need a full race cam set up, race heads, race pistons with 13:1 CR, and a big carb.. plus extras...in race trim these engines can make 400 HP, hopefully that will be enough..

you want a race engine, so you'll have to buy racing gas104+...it's either that or go to a twin turbos
 
Edelbrock offers a top end package for $1200.00 which gives the 302 367 hp and will fit your engine (302=stroked 289). I believe everything you need is there in the package and if you are skilled it can be installed at home. Of course you don't have to get all edelbrock stuff I just thought since you had the carb I might as well suggest the rest.

yea im sure 13;1 comp supposed to be running avgas try a bit more street frindly 10 or 11to 1 comp ratio. other wise the only place you are going to be drivin to is gas stations. or try l.p.g. (propane) only it supports high comp ratio and bit more user friendly.
