how to bridge across the tow rear channels of car head unit?

i have two 8ohm mid-range speakers in the boot of my car paralleled down to 4 ohms. they are running off one of the rear channels with all the other channels turned down low. it sounds nice but i would like to try and bridge across the two rear channels to try and get a bit more power. the speakers are strictly speaking 6 ohm speakers not 8. so i was thinking about running each one off a separate channel, but i don't know if the ohm increase would make it pointless or damage the head unit. any ideas. thanks
