How To Bike Yourself Into Shape?

Two words: Lance Armstrong. Arguably the fittest man on the planet.

How far? I have grandkids nearly your age and I can handle 200-300 miles a week. If that's too much for you, ease into it. Rule of thumb is increase mileage no more than 10% a week. At 16, you can probably stretch that some.

If you have access to a pool, and know how to swim, add a couple miles a day in the lap lane. That should take care of the upper body as well as cardiovascular conditioning.

I'm 16 years old and It is NOW July 4th, Independence Day. I have until August 20th to get in shape. I was running for a while and playing soccer daily, but I managed to pull my groin, forcing me to undergo physical therapy for 6 weeks, meaning I can't run. So, my question is, Is it possible to bike your way into shape? If so, how much will I need to do every week?
