I have tried and tried to get along with my MIL but more than overbearing she is an idiot. Her dog tried to bite my son when he was one but I grabbed him and my husband grabbed the dog before her teeth hit his skin. She was sitting next to them both. Since then I have asked her to keep the dog put up when he is around and I was concerned with my children's safety. She told me it was okay if the dog bit him because her teeth are falling out anyways. She then went on to every time we are over having the dog out. I finally had to be rude and tell her it was fine if she was comfortable but if anything did happen I would have the county put the dog to sleep. Of course the entire family went off on me. Both my in laws smoke and I have asked them not around my children. My SIL went to a baseball game and cussed me out because of this request and said it wouldn't make a difference anyways. I asked my MIL not to do stockings because she keeps making comments like Santa does a better job at her house and she told me that she has been doing them so long why should I get a turn? The list goes on and on. I hate to say it but if I knew she was this way or did not have children I would not be married to my hubby. Everyday is stressful with her and she will not leave us alone. She tries to come between us often and it just puts him in a bad position. So how do I cope with her?
The stockings I admit it is not nice for me to want to do alone, except for the fact she gives them toys that are not age appropriate and fills them up with candy along with the ugly comments. I have ignored them thus far.
As for putting the dog outside, that was my solution but she said she would be lonely and the dog's teeth are falling out so it wouldn't hurt that bad if they got bit (my children are 3 and 1).
I have been married and coping with this for 10 years and I am just looking for someone to have a good idea on how to cope through the season with her.
My hubby is there but he is quiet because he is trying not to hurt her feelings.
I don't want her to be hurt just civil if not nice.
