Just as i said above mate, Spirit is your best option for jailbreak at this time.
 
@Barton3000: Thanks for the info, but i am still confused about your reply. You are right that the carrier is showing "Not available", as this piece i have is 5.12.01 with OS 3.1.3(LOCKED). But the phone is active.
When i restored it to official 3.1.3, phone was not activated "Emergency call", but after performing jailbreak (readsn0w), i got it activated.
But again this was tested on 3g, so far i have no experience with 3GS.

Can you please give more details why some users are not able to activate there phones or what are the cases where user get stuck with activation? I want to know more about it please.

well, I downloaded the Spirit, as it is written on the forum, then affiliated iphone to the PC and when I pushed on jailbreak in Spirit the error popped up ….

Guys, i don't understand why its a big fuss, just to activate & jailbreak v3.1.3 with modem firmware 5.12 is a piece of cake. Most recent one was day before yesterday.
Use redsn0w. it will activate it & jailbreak it.
here is a guide:-

BTW i have done it more than 3 times, but only on 3g, not 3gs.

Hi guys, i too have an Iphone 3gs with 05.12.01 and 6.4 bootloader, with 3.1.3 fw and need it unlocking, its on tmobile? can this be unlocked its stuck on emergency screen/ Itunes!! i dont have the original sim card?? i cant get any sim working at the min? any ideas? can i just put a tmobile sim back in even if its not the original? thanks guys...
