How soon can I test? Irregular period!?

I posted this in the pregnancy section but have not gotten many answers.

Okay, I have an irregular period. I want to test for pregnancy but I do not know when to expect my next period. Unfortunately I only kept track of my period in November and December. In November it came on the 24th, and in December it came on the 15th.

I had unprotected sex between Christmas and New Years, and my doctor said that was some of my most fertile days. I know some pregnancy tests you can take before your expected period but I'm wondering how soon I can take it. I took one two days ago and it was negative -- does that mean I'm not pregnant or does it mean that I need to wait a bit first?
 
You could be testing to soon resulting in false negatives. I would say take a test monday morning. You should get pretty accurate results.
 
seems to me that you maybe testing to soon so you should wait a few weeks and then do another one or ask your doc to do a blood test
