I have been wanting to cancel my bell account for sometime now as I switched to the promo priced Telus TV. I want to sell my receiver online as I bought it, how quickly will whoever buys it be able to activate it?

A friend told me that it stays locked to your account until your next invoice cut off date?

Thanks,

If your account is cancelled and you are no longer getting any kind of programming then there is no logical reason why the receiver cannot be added to another account straight away.

Just be sure to inform Bell that you have sold or are selling the receiver.

When you CALL to cancel you must wait 30 days for your account to be deactivated. After that you can transfer any equipment, but please call Bell TV first to give your permission.

A receiver can be removed from one account and added to another at any time. There is no waiting period. You need to call Bell and provide the receiver serial number and smart card number to remove it from the account. Keep track of the numbers since they don't always get it right the first time and you might need to call again. The other person can activate the receiver immediately after it is removed from your account.

Correct. That must always be done, even if the account is no longer active. The receiver must be free and clear of any old account before it can be activated on another. That also means the old account cannot have any outstanding balance.

The 30 day wait only applies to the account and programming. Receivers can be transferred immediately.

I bought a 5900 from a guy and we took it off his account and added it to mine all in the same phone call. Once the programming he had was removed and mine was added (we had some different theme packs) we disconnected it from his system I took it home. Although that was a couple years ago.

When you call to cancel your services, a work order to close your account is opened and it will be processed in 30 days. If you have 1 receiver, that receiver must be on your account for the full 30 day period and cannot be transfered during your notice period. If you have more than 1 receiver and you plan an transfering any of them before your notice period is up, then have the retentions agent deactivate that receiver before he/she makes your disconnection work order. This way it will be easier for future contacts with Bell TV CSRs.

The account in this case needs to be deactivated, since this appears to be the only receiver on the account. You cannot take that receiver out of the account until it is closed. If you have more than one receiver, then it's fine to take one out. You need permission for an active account, but you do NOT need permission/authorization for a closed account.

30 days notice is required to disconnect an account. You can sell the receiver and tell the new owner it can be activated when the thirty days is up.

You cannot sell rental equipment; it does not belong to you.

Sometimes doing it all in the same phone call can work, if you have more than one receiver on your account.

Thanks for all the info. I have one other receiver on my account so I will call and deactivate the one I want to sell, and leave the old 3100 that is in the bedroom on the account for the 30 day waiting period.

Make sure you're absolutely clear that you want the first one disabled before they set up the deactivation of your account. Then it can be taken out without having to wait the thirty days.
