he's 10 weeks old, i just got him today and he's a terrier and beagle mixed with some other things. since he's not house trained, we got a cage for when no ones home but he whines and barks when i leave him in the cage, and out landlord doesn't mind dogs but doesn't want really noisy ones (which he's not, only when hes in the cage) so idk what to do
also, any tips on how to "potty" train him, he keeps pooping in the living room and we've been trying to get him to do it on the paper
yeah i plan on letting him go outside but he doesnt have his rabies shots yet so i cant let him be outside on the ground for 3 weeks (thats when the appointment for the shots are)

If you're in an apartment, good luck with a terrier beagle mix. Haha. Those dogs belong outside sniffing around and running.

As for training him not to whine...well you can't really. If he's sad he's not gonna hide it from you. That's like training a kid not to whine lol.

As for potty training, they make sprays and special pads for puppy potty training. Go to your local pet store.

Good luck.

When whines, ignore him. Seriously. That's the only way.

For housebreaking, I'd recommend you Google many of the excellent articles on that subject.

Dogs will generally eliminate on an absorbent surface, so if you have carpet in your living room, try to keep him out of it. You should supervise the dog closely and take him outside to do his business after he gets up from a nap and after eating. You have to wait him out -- if he doesn't go, then when you bring him back in he goes back in the crate.

Consistency and vigilance is the key.

BTW, it's a waste of time to teach him to go on paper. You don't really want him to go inside, do you?
