How should I handle dealing with a Sprint cell acount collection for an acount that I...

...never signed for? Right before my 18th b-day my mom got me a Sprint cell phone and gave it to me for my b-day and it was in my name but I never signed any contracts or was even told that I had a 2 yr contract to keep or I would have to pay a early cancelation fee. So after a few months I couldn't pay the bill anymore and ever since I have had a collection from them for $295 or something like that. I even spoke with someone at Sprint and told them I never agreed to any terms and didn't even establish the service, my mom did and all they told me was oh well maybe you should file a police report on your mom. That is crazy, I would never do such a thing they should not be able to just creat an acount for whom ever especialy if the person is not present at the time. Anyways, I don't know what to do. When all this happened I ended up just saying whatever because I was young. Now I am 27 and it's been around 9 yrs and I realize now how important it is to take care of my credit and would like to get this resolved. What should I do?
