I have about 15' long and 6' wide area to work with. One 6' side is against my garage, and the perpendicular 15' side is against a brick wall. I wanted to build a frame, either of wood or some sort of material, that would be as tall as the wall so I can put a top on it as well. My main question is what should the bottom of the pen be made of? I plan on using chicken wire for all of the sides and the top, however I am afraid it will hurt their feet even if the bottom wire is flush with the grass underneath. Ive read online that people making something like this have laid a layer of straw down over the floor, and then every week flipping the cage over to empty it out....the problem is that I have two bunnies and this is a rather large run, and thats a lot of straw! Does anybody have any ideas on how I should make my bunny pen?
