Almost all motors built today are very reliable..Most are roller cam motors with longer life spans then the 50s versions. I can remember when 100,000 miles was the end for the car now we put 200,000 on with thinking about it.Plus the newer engines run cleaner and more efficiently.

toyota or honda motors are a lot better the body will go before the motor if it is serviced properly myself i would take a toyota

it's a good question alot has to do with personal preferance. and alot has to do with how well they are maintained. now me i'm a chevy and gm guy all the way but i have owned some fords and a dodge to. the newer motors are more reliable fof the most part however i just retired my old farm truck a 1978 1-ton chevy 4x4 with 475,000 on the all original 350 engine and drivetrain. but the second body was shot. now i had alot of problems with my older fords but in ther defense i got them for next to nothing used and they were already 20 yrs. old at that time. now my wife had a 02 ford ranger and that was one of the best trucks we have had. the truck saved her life when a lady t-boned her a6t 55 mph and my wife walked away with out a scratch. i'm not a big fan of the forign makers but i'll put money that my 03 chevy out lasts my old one i've only got 130,000 on it but i rack up mi. like on tomorrow.

I honestly know nothing about GM engines, but Fords I know. And Fords last forever. I have a 1996 windstar with 220k miles, a 1996 mustang with 180k miles, i have a 2000 focus with 150k miles (i drive a lot if you've noticed) and my uncle has old f-150s and f-250 coming out of his back side. Ford is in a dead heat with toyota and honda for quality and realiability (but toyota is falling back at an alarming rate). Something else to consider, is that Mercury was rated #2 in reliability, even though they are exactly the same as ford (the only difference is minor design details) engines, transmissions, etc. Check out the link below, it might change your mind.
