Was wondering if folks who had this done could give me some details on prolo treaments . The ins and outs.. I'm only taking 10 MG Hydrocodone for pain now , will they increase or give me something for pain after these ? My surgeon still insist that these will help so I'm gonna have it done. How long are you sore after these ? Its for my S1 joint.

Thanks a bunch

Hi Shawley, How are you doing? with prolo you have the chice of concious sedation and I totally recommend doing that. It is pretty painful but that said I don't have much tolerance for pain anymore. Plus I think I get kind of anxious and of course that doesn't help at all. I just had my lurabar area done April 1 and April 29th. The first round wasnt bad at all. I was laugh and talking with the doctor and nurses the entire time. The second round really hurt and I cried. ( I am erabarrassed about that but there was no stopping it). First they set up an IV and then you go into a sterile room with a fluroscope. You lay on your stomach and they clean your back with betadine. Next you are given a nice coctail of fentanyl and versaid and you feel pretty good. then the doctor starts putting in some nurabing shots in the selected area. Once thats nurab she goes in deep with the sugar water solution. I only really felt that deep shot a couple of times, but when I felt it oh boy did I feel it. If you only had one or two shots it wouldn't be bad at all but last time I had 28 and that was hurting a lot. I could feel my back get tight right away. After the procedure I was ravenously hungry so Doug to me out to IHOP for breakfast and I ate a lot! When I got home I was sleepy so I went up to take a nap and when I woke up I was reallly sore. That sore lasted 2 maybe 3 days then went away, but this time I started to have pain after not having any for a few days and I don't know what it is thats causing it. It kind of reminRAB me of kidney stones so I dont think what I am experiencing now is related to Prolo. If you have any questions let me know. Good Luck and take Care, Dee ;)

HI Shawley,

I've never heard of the prolotherapy. I take it your pain free days from the SCS have come to an end? My new PM doc wants me to have the trial again and I just don't want to go through that again. I have a nice 9 inch scar from the trial the last time and they never got it in the right place. I'm sort of at my wits end myself. Between my doctor (only have PM right now so that should speak volumes) and my husband trying to push me into going back to work while I am still in so much pain is maddening. I do have an offer on the table for work but who knows if I can even do it? I really was hoping your SCS was a complete success. I hope this will work out for you.

I had my screen name changed but I am the one who always wants to call you Steve as I had a business associate named Steve Hawley! Lots of good thoughts your way.

Sincerely,
Lisa

Hi Lisa , Yeah my stim is still working fine . It never helped with my backpain though.. Sorry you had a hard time with the trial..9" scar from it ? WoW did he butcher you.. My two scars from my stim leaRAB are only about 4" long.. I have two because they had to put a new lead in. I don't know how people can work with this pain...Sorry your dealing with this. Take care and thanks for the reply ..:)

Yeah I'd say its pretty much like ESI, but a whole bunch of them. Like I said Doug counted 28 little holes in my low back and bottom. I have had them in my neck too, but that hurts a lot more. I was having pain in the same place that you are and I am feeling much better now. I think you will be happy with the results/ Good Luck and let me know when you get an appointment. Dee

Dee , sounRAB like it compares to the ESI's am I right ? It really doesn't sound that bad . I haven't heard anything yet from my doctor , he's looking for a doctor close to my home that does this. So far the closest is a 2 hour drive to the Dr. Hate to ride home in pain....I'm still wondering why my surgeon thinks its my S1 joint.. My pain is in my lower back and across my hips ? But I'm sure he knows what he's talkin about..( hope so ) I haven't been to Ihop in a long time.. Thanks for the info , I'm not so scared now.

Shawley :)

Hey Shawley...nice to see you on here again...sorry that you are still in pain. The best test for the SI joint, I was told, is an injection into the SI joint--like an epi...and if all of the pain goes away..well it's the SI joint which is causing the pain. That is the diagnostic for this problem. They do this inj. two times.. I was told that PT, radiofrequency, prolotherapy, and surgery are the treatments for the SI joint. I have finally been diagnosed with this as the cause of my back/leg/foot pain..took them long enough. Because I had this for sooooo long my Dr. feels that the surgery is my best bet in getting well. So I will be having it at the end of June. In the meantime, I am studying, reading and asking lots and lots of questions...don't want to wind up later with the same pain.. I hope that the prolo. works for you.. Take care..

I just had prolotherapy for the first time. I got 30 injections for lower disks, facet joints, SI joints. I tolerated all but the shots in my disks. Those really hurt. I am sore now after 5 days but I still have pain in lower disk area. I can't say if this is normal or not. My Dr. just palpitatated the area and gave me the injections. He also drew a grid map on my back area. I am scheduled for another round in 10 days. Everybody's pain tolerance is different and it also depenRAB how good your Dr. is. I didn't take any pain meRAB for this procedure. Hope this helps.
