How one can become a University lecturer in the UK?

I am reading for a degree in Biomedical Science. After this I would like to read for an MSc (related to immunology) followed by a Phd.

How does one get into lecturing at University?

What is the pay like?

How can one progress, how long does this take and what is the ranking system?
