How often, when taken to early, is a doctor urine pregnancy test wrong?

I went to the doctor for my yearly check and because I had unprotected sex several times around ovulation I asked for a pregnancy test, even though it was very early- only a week after the sex. The test was negative, but my period is now two days late. The doctor said their tests are sensitive but they obviously cant be a 100% sure that early.
