He's a Betta, if that helps.

I got him two days ago from my friend, and she gave it to me in the little bowl. I haven't cleaned it once.I've heard that if you clean it to often, they'll die.But I don't want to have to swim in dirty water ]:

well it depends on the lighting of the room and how often u feed him. and if u have a snail or not..assuming u have the right lighting for a fish bowl and a beta to draw out the proper color of him. and ur not overly feeding hm. u could do a small cleaning once every few days. since it is only a bowl, it wont take long at all :)

Betta bowls should be cleaned once every week to 2 weeks...and BTW, Bettas DO NOT NEED a heater, filter, etc.. It would be nice but they DONT NEED it.. If they NEEDED, then the petstores wouldnt sell them in cups and they would be in tanks like the rest of the fish.

First of all, your betta should not be living in a bowl. Bowls get dirty very fast, because the betta will obviously produce a lot of waste. And since the bowl is so small, waste will build up quicker. Bowls also don't have any filters, so the waste builds up even more. So you would have to clean this bowl almost every single day. (Actually probably twice a day.)

I suggest you get a long, five-ten gallon tank with a filter. They are very cheap, and you could probably get one for almost the same price as one of those rip-off bowls.

Oh yeah, and youreari, just because a fish CAN live in those conditions, doesn't mean it likes it. Imagine living in a little shack that has no bathroom or cleaning system and almost no food. Would you like that? You may say, "Well it's just a fish!", but it's just as cruel if you do to a fish.

Hope this helps!
Good luck!

i had a beta once, we only cleaned its tank like twice a month maybe less. the thing lived forever (and is still living) and even went 3 weeks without being fed. so they're pretty sturdy.

Every few days if you dont have a filter, or just wait until the water begins to go cloudy

if you want that fish to live? twice a day, with 3 or four times being better. If you dont want to do that? get a tank, at least 5 gallons, with a heater and filter. once you do that, water changes come weekly. whatever people tell you, bettas cannot be kept properly in a bowl. they need a heater and filter.
