how often change the caliper in the front brakes of a toyota corolla?

I change the brakes pads, cut the rotors but the groaning sound is still there and now when i go over 60mph i hear a knocking sound.
 
It's not your brakes doing it . You have something majorly wrong . You need to have it check out fast .
 
The knocking sound would not be the brake system as it just sits there when not in use.
 
You change a caliper when ever it hangs up. That could be 3 or 4 times over the life of a car or it could be never.

What you describe sounds like a wheel bearing, if the brakes were installed properly.
 
You should never have to change the caliper.. Just b/c the brake pads go that doesnt mean the caliper is bad.. They are easy to inspect. Just back the piston back in with a c-clamp and then press or pump the brakes - if the piston comes back out and you dont see anything leaking than they are good to go.. My god, dont you woman keep a boyfriend any more that knows about cars??? I guess everybody go's to college nowadays
 
A groaning sound? that sounds like a wheel bearing not a caliper. the knocking could be a bad bushing or tie rod end or just the wheel ready to fall off. For your own safety have it checked by a mechanic but you may want to make sure your lug nuts are tight before driving there and see if you have any play in the wheel.
