Im 16 getting a permit very soon, working at a summer job and when the summer is over, going to work at a local pet store or grocery store (part time because of school, so ill be getting minimum wage..) By the end of the summer, i will have about 1,300. As you can see, im looking at a ninja '08 but of course thats not set in stone because i am only 16. But I am really dedicated to have the time for it and I am trying to get the money now. My dad said he will probably put me on his insurance, but since it is a motorcycle and I am young, I'm not sure how much the insurance is... Also, I have read 10,000 people say the Ninja 250 is a really good beginner bike, so if anything i would buy a used one. How much would the used bike, insurance, equitment (helmet, etc), and locks for the bike cost in total?

Thxx a lot

It is the perfect beginner bike without question, but I would not buy an 08-09 model. You will get bored with the bike quickly and want to upgrade. Get a used one from 04-07 You can pick up a decent one for about $2000. By the time you are bored with it, you can sell it for about $1500. The 250s hold their value pretty well because they are in high demand for beginners. As far as safety equipment goes, it all depends on what you want and how far you go with it. You can get a cheap, new helmet, jacket, gloves and boots for about $500. I would look for better safety equipment that is used.

The 2008 is a sweet looking bike (new body style). You are probably going to pay around $3000 for the '08 bike, give or take a few hundred. It just depends on the condition. Kelly Blue book says $2700.

You can spend $50 or $500 on a helmet.

The other stuff I can't help you with.

I wish Kawasaki would make the 500 Ninja with the same body style as the '08-'09 250 Ninja.
