1994 Ford Mustang? I recently replaced the old engine in my 1994 Ford Mustang that I purchased earlier this year in April. However, the "mechanic" neglected to tell me that my transmission was on its way out. I found out the hard way that it was shot, and now need to replace the transmission and possibly the "new" engine I just had installed. How did I not know the trans was bad? Like I said, the original engine that was in the car when I purchased it this past April was already about to throw a rod, and I'd only driven it twice. My father drove it a few times too. We figured any problems the car was having were as a result of the bad engine that were in it. Stupid assumption? Maybe, but hey! We're not mechanics!
When I finally got the engine replaced, the car seemed to shift fine, until one day the engine started straining while I was driving on the freeway. I noticed this and tried to exit the freeway, but I nearly ended up in a ditch when I couldn't steer or brake as a result of the engine actually quitting. What I need to know is, how much does it generally cost to replace the engine in a 1994 Ford Mustang with a 3.8 V6? And given all the trouble I had and money that I've spent thus far, is it worth it to try and fix it, or should I sell it as a parts car and get something else? Seems like it has the potential to be a good running car. Serious answers only please.
