my hair is really long, it's like this length

i haven't had my hair cut in about 4 months, and my hair dosen't ususally get damaged becuase i usually don't straighten it a lot becuase it has natural nice waves. However, during the summer, i went on vacation to a really hot humid country for 3 weeks and my hair got so frizzy becuase of the humidity so i had to straighten/curl it every day, and sometimes twice a day, so my hair is really damaged!
when i came back from vacation, i straightened/curled my hair twice a week becuase it's still a bit humid.
anyway, now my hair is so so so so so damaged, like there's A LOT of split ends, and my mom booked me an appointed at the salon later on, but i'm DREADING it, becuase my hairdresser will cut my hair really short.
i will tell him to try and keep my hair as long as possible, and he's a really good hairdresser and he won't cut off more than needed, BUT how much do you think i will need to cut off AND do you think i can keep the length and just add in layers?
i'm sooooooo scared for the hairdresser and i don't know if i will go becuase i have had long hair all my life and i will hate short hair on me!

ooh no, i have to cut off sooooooo much more than 2 inches!my split ends go way above 2 inches lol
