How much would beginning ballroom lessons cost?

A friend and I were thinking of taking ballroom classes somewhere. But we'd like the know around of what the average cost would be.

We don't need to go to a super fancy place and its just basic ballroom.

It really depends on the studio- around me the average price for beginner group classes is $15 but they're free if you take private lessons. Private lessons are more expensive though. Some places offer a beginner package though where you can get a few private lessons cheap just to see if you like it. A lot of studios near me have parties a few times a month that are either free or around $15 to attend and you can talk to people and learn a couple patterns there and that'd help you get a good feel for the studios and people there. Try doing your research and calling places, it won't hurt to ask. Ballroom dancing is really fun, I hope you like it. :)

My friend and I ended up doing ballroom dance classes at a church for 6 weeks for only $30! That is actually a good price because we learned the basics, and had fun.

We tried to go around to professional studios at first like Arthur Murray, but it cost over $1000 for six weeks! Yikes!

So yeah, do internet research, and look at local churches, and community college programs for summer- those should be cheap and have basic classes

I live in mid-sized city with several different studios in the area.
We have a Fred Astaire studio and ballet studio that offer ballroom. When I first began I choose the ballet studio becuase it was cheaper, but I didn't really like it and the quality was poor. So I switched to Fred Astaire where they specialize just in ballroom. I love it. It's $70 a month for two lessons a week. The shoes were quite expensive. Like $80. Make sure to ask your instructor which kind of shoes you will need. Oh, I take classes in a group of like 12. And when I first started I had a new partenr every week, but I only alternate between two now. The instructor will probably place you with someone based on height.

Community groups may offer very inexpensive lessons, but they'll be pretty limited in what they'll teach. Independent studios offer group classes for something in the vicinity of $10 a lesson and anywhere from about $50-$75 per hour for private lessons, and you'll want a few of those even at the beginner level. They generally offer dances or "practice parties" also usually at about $10 or $15. Don't completely write off the franchise studios. They may offer a good package at a discount, but in general they tend to be a bit more expensive. They are franchises, so prices vary, but AM is famous for the hard sell and the strict package that they darned well know will waste a lot of your money. If your local AM is one of those, run away. FADS is generally better about that sort of thing, but again you'll want to go in with your eyes open.
