How much to spend on childs first bike?

Its our daughters 3rd birthday in October & we're getting her a bike with stabilisers, she's been able to ride for a few months on her 7yr old friends old bike which I think is a 3-5yr old one, its a bit tatty and its kept at her grandparents & she's been begging for a pink girly one for her birthday.
The only thing is the prices range from as little as £30 to £150, she was riding one round Halfords today which costs £90.
Is it worth spending a lot on her first proper bike to get a good quality one?
Any advice , what to look for and avoid would be great - thanks.
I don't want a secondhand one, I want her to have a brand new one, we're not rich but we can afford to treat her to a shiny new one. Thanks though I know people who use freecycle its a good idea

Don't spend too much money because she will grow out of it sooner than you know. Spend $90 max and under. Don't go with the cheapest one either, it probably wont last. Go with the one in the middle range. She won't even see the difference as long as it looks pretty and girlie.

If you want to try for a free one join your local freecycle group from yahoo! groups. You may have to get rid of something first before you put a wanted ad in but if you keep your mail box open & an eye on it you may be able to snap one up. Click the link below & search for freecycle mytown (i.e. freecycle Pinner) if you just put freecycle you'll get lots of freecycle groups you don't want.
