How much to replace head gaskets for Toyota Camry 1994 2.2L?

My car is a Toyota Camry 1994 2.2L, also has LPG installed, done about 231,000 km. I'm based in Melbourne, Australia. My engine has been overheating a lot, coolant disappearing although no apparent leaks, radiator bubbles, some steam from exhaust. mechanic says "water in engine", something about a blown head gasket. He quoted me between AUD 1200-1600. He also mentioned my radiator (never changed since 1994) is about to go, will cost another AUD400. Am i being ripped off cos i see answers here costing 5-800 assuming its USD.

my mechanic says they gotta take out part of the engine, send it somewhere (apparently Toyota sends their engine there too) to have it checked for cracks, or bending or sth to ensure no damage is done by the overheating.

price will vary between shops but i dont know why they have to send out the engine to check for cracks. they should beable to do that themselves or have toyota or a toyota dealership do it. an overheated engine will have to be stripped down and checked for any internal damage though
