how much to rebuild a 93 honda prelude engine?

Thinking of buying this 93 honda prelude sr with 144 000 kilometers that needs a rebuilt engine because the owner neglected to change the timing belt on time. Why would the broken timing belt cause this much damage? If i was to buy it, what would need to be repaired and how much would it cost to get it back on the road. I'm thinking of offering $900.00. Would it be worth it.

Apparently it was an "interference" type engine where the valves hit the pistons when the belt breaks. Even a seasoned Honda engine technician probably can't guess exactly what he'll find when he takes the engine apart. If I were you, since you can't afford a new remanufactured engine ($4,000 installed), then I'd check with my local junk yards to see how much a used engine would be for that car. Some junk yards install the used engine and give you a limited warranty here in the USA. But I'd assume the old engine is not worth rebuilding (even though it might be) before buying the car. Then if you know other ways to get an engine like the junk yard, you'll know the most you'll have to pay to fix the problem. But what about the transmission? If it's an automatic transmission, I wouldn't buy the car.
