How much to pay for mechanic to check a car?

I am interesting in purchasing a car from a private owner. Want a good
mechanic( been advised to do this) To inspect this vechicle. What would be the cost for a inspection?
 
That depends on where you live (labor charge).

But don't always go for the lowest bidder. Ask a list of things they check for the money. You can even comeback here with the list and ask if the LIST is thorough (the more important part).

I do this at my shop and it is a thourough 160 point inspection.

This doe not include a smog check, that is another 50.00.

I charge 35.00 for the inspection and wright you out a reciept that covers everything you need to know about your car, while your there, I also set you up with a laptop and internet access so you can look up carfax reports, and do a lemon check (recalls).

This is a very important decision and you need to know all you can about your car, before you purchase, including brake pads, rotors, oil filters, special parts, and costs involved for some vehicles.

A little hint: foreign cars are always more expensive parts, and labor is nearly double for repairs.
Just a heads up that you might want to look at USA auto's rather than going with the flow everyone seems to think that foreign is so much better!
