How much talent does it take to be a successful poet?

People say I'm a talented writer. What can I do to improve myself? And how much does it take to actually be somebody?
 
Don't quit your job and keep writing. Share your work for others to see and take advise when given.

(most famous poets are dead, getting it now are you?)
 
There's no real answer to that. "Success" is in the eye of the beholder. Also, with any type of art - music, writing, painting, etc - what one person thinks is crap, the next person may think is fabulous.

If you're talking about success in terms of becoming a famous published writer - I guess your goal should be how to relate to the most amount of people in order to get them to like your work, thus making you popular.

In my opinion, success comes when you find happiness in what you do.

Probably 25% talent, 75% work. This means you gotta be at it for so many hours a day without fail. Your work will become more and more perfect as you hone your skills. You might like your work right now. But as it improves you will actually admire it a lot more. And then other people will also discover you. The connoisseur of poetry knows works that have substance and also which pieces are from incomplete or careless thought. If you have a bit of talent and dedicate yourself to working at poetry, then one day you will be found. Good luck!
 
There aren't a lot of poets writing now, famous poets who are not dead, who make a living off just writing poetry. And reakky very few poets who would want to :just write". Better to write and live and have a living away from the words.
