My husband's car engine crapped out a few weeks ago, and we have been on a roller coaster with the mechanic ever since. He has found and installed 2 different replacement engines, and both have failed in the shop as soon as he started them. Now he says that he is just going to repair the original engine, something that he said was a bad idea at the beginning of all of this. The original quote to replace the engine was $3000.00. He has told me that this will be less expensive, but has not given me a number. What is an acceptable charge for this repair? The car has 120,000 miles, and I am not sure how much we want to spend for this.
