I have a 13" royal clown knife, that needs a new home. He is quickly outgrowing his 125g tank. I need to sell him, but do not know how much to ask for him? He eats on pellets, and about once a month, he gets a few feeders. I bought him when he was 3", for $5.99.

Fish, like anything else, are only worth what someone will pay for him. How big is it, if it's too large for a 125? Must be huge.
I'd start with a pet store (not petsmart or petco, though) that specializes, or sells only fish and fish related items. If possible, take a picture of it to them, tell them how large it is and ask them if they'd buy it and for how much. This is definitely no indication, though of how much it is worth.
A friend of mine sold her fish back to a fish shop when it outgrew it's tank. They paid her 30 and sold it for 200. You can ask them how much it is worth if you sold it privately. (I'd go to at least 2 shops, they're all different). You could get an idea from them. It depends on how interested they are in that type and size of fish. If they can accomodate it, they might just want it to keep for display, and maybe you'll get more for it that way.
Also, if you check enough shops, you just might come across one who has a customer that is already looking for such a fish, which might get you a little more.
I don't think this is a common occurence, so it's not like you can check the ads and see what others are selling for, but you have to start somewhere.

$9.95. It is true adult fish are more expensive that young but it all depend on the type of fish.

Where do you live, prices differentiate depending on country and area!
However a breeder here in Australia would sell a clown knife at that size for at least $150 or about $70US.They are slow growing there for, they are far more expensive.Check fish forums local to your area for prices on fish or ask there. Also fish do have fads, whats expensive one day may not be the next.Hope this helps

For a Clown Knife and I have 5 of them in my 100+gallon tanks and the biggest one is 25inches and in my 180Gallon tank and doing fine and i have one same size as yours too in the same size tank and is fine as well nothing I am worrying about there for that fish. He's awesome and loves it when I hand feed him.I did sell my 14inche Clown Knife for $45 and went fast too. It's up to you how much you will sell it for but,try the price ranges from $20-55 you may be surprised!
