How much should I offer for a 2007 Honda Fit?

The person listen the vehicle asking for $8700. It has 71K miles on it. One owner and carfax is clean. Good Condition blue book has it valued at $7800. It has a scratch on the back and a small stain on front seat so i thought good condition is a fair assessment.

When somebody lists something on craiglist for $8700 what would you guess be that there bottom line is? I want to make an offer but dont know what to offer at this point...

Around 6 to 8 thousand.

remember, its not a one of a kind. there are thousands of cars out there.

Remember to low-ball your offer. Think about what you would do if you were the seller of the said vehicle.

Look at the blue book dealer trade-in value and use that as your starting value. You're bound to get a no, but that's when you have room to negotiate. After two or three rounds of back-and-forth, you should ask the seller about going in-between and making the purchase.
