unit from 1999 BMW 540iA? I recently sold my 1999 BMW 540iA in excellent condition with 150,000 miles on it to a good friend of mine. He's now looking to sell it. I said I might be interested and told him to bring it over so I can take a look at it. He has since put nearly 20,000 miles on it in just under 6 months! He has kept it up pretty well, but what really through me for a loop was that he had the WHOLE stereo head unit replaced with some cheap Kenwood unit. I told him that doing that wasn't the smartest thing to do as the unit also controlled the 6 disc CD changer AND had the trip computer integrated into the unit! I'm not sure whether the new Kenwood unit can be made to control the CD changer or not. But , as far as I know, there is no way to clear the trip indicators on the dash! I told him that it would have been better to fix whatever was wrong with the unit. My question is this....How much is a fair and reasonable deduction for the head unit removal from his asking price of the car? To me, I think it should be fairly substantial, in the $300-$500 range. He thinks it's no big deal. But he doesn't want to accept the fact that the type of people who would be looking at a car such as this are going to be rather particular. And as such, that he shouldn't be surprised if and when they try to bargain him down because of it. He and I both are curious as to what would be fair. Thanks in advance to all who reply!
