I've heard it's quite common for most people to give cash as a wedding gift, especially in certain areas of the country or within certain social/ethnic groups. Anyway, I've heard of the bride and groom making a bundle in generous cash gifts from family and friends. I had one friend who received enough for half of a 20% down payment on a house.
Now, I know it's rude to ask for gifts or to assume anyone is going to give you anything at all. However, it's always interesting to hear how generous family and friends can be to a newly married couple.
So, from your experience, how did you do in terms of cash gifts at your wedding. Another friend of mine said she received $13,000 in cash gifts and they had 130 people at their wedding.
Maybe this is a bit of a taboo question, since this always seems to cause debates and draw criticism from some people; but, I'm interested in knowing.
I'm not trying to be rude. But, I feel like this is one of those questions that do cross people's mind. You know, more out of curiousity than rudness. But, they're too scared to ask. I'm not scared to ask a bunch of strangers this question, because this is a place to share information and ask these types of things.
