well to understand vectors you do have to know trigonometry. Since this is not a higher Physics course though, you should be ok if you make sure you know a couple of formulas from the beginning, and train yourself in working with numbers.
I tread "Physics for dummies" , it's pretty nice made and it would give you a head start.
