How much is a transfer case replacement on a 96 chevy?

We just had one mess up today. Last week the u-joint went out on it, the place he bought the truck at fixed it and no less than a week later it went out again. So when a friend of my husbands went to fix it, they fixed the u-joint and went to put more fluid in and then they realized it was leaking way too bad so we have to fix it. How much will this run? Does this sound like something the dealership should fix? They did a bang up job on fixing it at first, I really think they tried to screw the pooch because they pretty much said we will have to pay for the wrecker service and to get it fixed all over again and he just bought this used truck like less than a year ago, maybe like 5 or 6 months ago.
 
you,d be better off getting a good used one to fit it,they cost around 300 bucks and labor to install them is only around 250 bucks,and you can get a warranty with a used transfer case,id do that before i spent what a rebuilt one cost,good luck.
