I have an 88 chevy silverado, and I think the ECM could be bad. The cruise control doesn't work, and I had a mechanic look at it and he did everything he could, but he said he could try putting a different ECM in it from his truck(also an 88 silverado) and see if that would work. If it is bad, it would explain a few other problems with the truck also. I was just wondering how much a brand new one would cost for my truck. Thank you!!

The computer in a vehicle either works or it doesn't. If the engine runs fine for the most part, then the computer is doing its job.

In older cars, the cruise control is controlled by an entirely separate system. If you look under the hood, and pull the air cleaner assembly off, you should see two throttle cables. One will go into the cab, the other goes to a round canister. This round canister is the cruise control servo. It is vacuum controlled. Start from there by doing vacuum checks on it, check all electrical connections leading to it as well. If not, take it to a certified Chevrolet dealer.
